During the last school year, my team ran some Professional Development (PD) around the time of Computer Science (CS) Education week. We wanted to give away some prizes at the end of the sessions. We had a couple of goals for the raffles:
- Encourage CS teachers to get started using Twitter
- Encourage current CS teachers who are Twitter users, to use the #CSinSF hashtag
- Model how to automate procedures
- Model how the highly flexible tool Flippity works
The video demonstrates how we setup our workflow. In short, we used IFTTT to grab any tweets with the #CSinSF hashtag and dump them into a Google Sheet. Then we used the Unique() function to remove duplicates from the Twitter username column, we wanted everyone who tweeted during the event to get exactly 1 chance to win, no matter how many times they tweeted. Then we copied the unique usernames over to the Flippity template in Sheets and ran the Spinner to choose winners. It may sound like a few steps. The video is 10 minutes long, however, it really only takes me under 2 minutes to set one up.
If you run an Edcamp, PD, or PLC style meeting, and you want to encourage, AND reward tweeting, this is a great workflow to use.
